Let's be book besties!

ML Wang is quickly becoming one of my favorite aut ML Wang is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

I usually avoid standalone books because I feel like it's not enough time to really tell a story. It is amazing how much ML Wang can do in such a short amount of time.

First off- the writing is beautiful.

ML Wang knows how to tell a story and captivate her audience. The characters are so imperfectly human.

The magic system and story are unique.

This book touches on a lot of important social issues. I don't really want to list them because I feel like that in itself might be a spoiler, but it definitely has a lot to say about misogyny and racism.

It's graphic.
It's dark.
It's uncomfortable.
It's heartbreaking.
It's an amazing book.

"Women, being governed by emotions, have no place in positions of political or magical power."

Thank you to my friend @bookedbffs who carefully picked out this book for me to read. And then patiently reminded me I was supposed to read it. ❤️
I got the coolest Mother's Day gift 😱😭. I know w I got the coolest Mother's Day gift 😱😭.

I know what you were thinking. You thought after I finished Light Bringer I would finally stop talking about Red Rising by @piercebrownofficial .

The people who deal with me in real life thought that too.

But apparantly non-stop chattering about Red Rising for six months will get you the entire set 🥹🥰.

I cannot recommend this series enough. And the best part- no confusing reading order! That's right! There's only one way to let this masterpiece hurt you.

You should try this series if you like:
-badass characters (men or women)
-space
-emotional damage
-books with no rules
-staying up way too late at night reading because you have to know what happens next
In honor of Mother's Day, I wanted to share some r In honor of Mother's Day, I wanted to share some recommendations from the woman who taught me to love reading, but apparantly she just reads what I force her to.

So instead, I'll share the book series I've made her read. These are obviously only the ones she's gotten to so far.

I'm a little proud of turning her into a howler. Aoooooooo 🐺.

And some books I can't wait to read with my own babies. My oldest just finished reading The Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone and I'm incredibly proud of him.

And of course for anyone paying attention- yes, this is basically the same post I made last week. I'm lazy😉.
"If a government is afraid of what its people say, "If a government is afraid of what its people say, then maybe there’s a reason for it.”

I challenged myself to read books outside of my comfort zone this year.

Dungeon Crawler Carl is definitely not one I expected to like, but after reading so many emotionally heavy books, this series has been perfect for me.

I love the humor, Princess Donut, and how things just happen to go wrong in the most entertaining ways. I also am always happy when the System's AI shows up to add it's insights. It genuinely made me laugh.

Would I sit down and binge the entire series at one time? Probably not. I see this as more of a palate cleanser between other books.

But it is so much fun and I cannot wait to see what trouble lies ahead for Carl and Donut.

Qotd: What's the funniest book you have read?
Challenge accepted! My friend @bookedbffs wants Challenge accepted!

My friend @bookedbffs wants to know what books I'd erase from my memory.

This challenge was particularly difficult because honestly I haven't read that many books.

I tried to use books I haven't mentioned on here a thousand times, but it is what it is.

Did three different Red Rising books make the list? Yes. Was Sword of Kaigen on there twice? Also yes. And I'm not sorry about it.

Tell me- what books would you erase from your memory?

I don't feel like tagging anybody today. If you feel up to it- consider yourself challenged.
Read The Sword of Kaigen by ML Wang. Seriously. Read The Sword of Kaigen by ML Wang.

Seriously. Just read it.

I went into this book knowing absolutely nothing about it except that @bookishly.ellie said it was the best book she read last year.

I cannot adequately put into words the deep emotional impact this book had on me.

When I wasn't reading it, it was all I could think about.

The amount of character growth in one book is amazing.

Every single moment of this book felt intentional.

In my humble opinion, it's the perfect standalone fantasy book.

I cannot wait to start reading ML Wang's other standalone, Blood Over Bright Haven that my friend @bookedbffs has so patiently been waiting for me to read.

"Listening never made any man dumber, but it’s made a lot of people smarter.”

When he says, "I love you, but he..." morally grey When he says, "I love you, but he..." morally grey edition.

I've seen a couple of people do this with the most romantic/spiciest things our favorite fictional men say, but I thought it would be more fun to focus on their less admirable qualities.

I tried my best to keep this spoiler free, but as always, read at your own risk.

Qotd: who are your favorite morally grey characters?
