Nonfiction Children’s Book Review: Cute Animals That Could Kill You Dead
Cute Animals That Could Kill You Dead by Brooke Hartman is a fun animal encyclopedia that allows children to learn more about animals. Animals that are seemingly cute and harmless can actually be deadly predators in their own right. Lady bugs, dolphins, and jumping spiders may be adorable, but could they also be vicious? Plus, did you know there is ONE known venomous mammal on Earth?
This book is easy to read and understand. It offers fun facts about adorable animals. Each animal page also includes an animal fact box that includes the animal’s size, habitat, and conservation status. There were a lot more animals in this book than I was expecting, which I appreciated as sometimes children’s books can be rather short. Every page contains colorful, engaging illustrations of these terrifyingly adorable animals. However, photographs of each animal are included at the back of the book.
My only issue with this book was the title, which I found to be misleading. With the title “Cute Animals That Could Kill You Dead”, I assumed we would be learning about cute animals that were dangerous to humans. It turned out to be about animals that are dangerous to various other creatures. Either way my children enjoyed it!
