Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bats! Mysterious and Misunderstood Mammals by Lydia Lukidis is an awesome resource for kids that love to learn about animals. The book is made in the hope of educating young people about the misconceptions of bats. The author clearly appreciates the animal and it shows throughout the book.

This book is easy to read and understand. It offers TONS of information about bats. Where they live, what they eat, how they’re special. It compares and contrasts the different species, as well as, compares them to different animals. It explains the folklore of bats, common misconceptions about bats, why they are so important to their ecosystems, and and explores their abilities. It offers insights on how you can help bats from your own home and provides a fun experiment about echolocation to help children better understand this awesome creature ability.

The layout of the book itself is visually appealing and similar to a text book. There is a ton of information on each page without being overwhelming. it has beautiful pictures of various species of bats and is separated into easy to navigate sections. Plus, there is a glossary for important or difficult words.

My favorite thing about this book is that it is so thorough without being overly complicated. It leaves no stone unturned while remaining intriguing and easy for children to comprehend. However, if you still want to learn more the author has provided links to more awesome resources about these misunderstood mammals.

If you enjoy this book be sure to check out other children’s books by the author including her Mythology Matchups and Science Solves it series!
