Crowns of Nyaxia

Carissa Broadbent is currently one of my favorite authors. She does a beautiful job creating worlds you can immerse yourself in. Her writing is beautiful and allows for a lot of character development and growth. You can’t help but empathize with her characters (who are perfectly imperfect). Broadbent writes in first person perspective, but often offers multiple points of view, giving insight to different sides of the same story. She currently has two series available for readers, The War of Lost Hearts Trilogy and The Crowns of Nyaxia series.

It is important to know that her books are graphic. Each of her books contains graphic sexual scenes and violence. Because of this she often adds a list of trigger warning at the beginning of her work.

Broadbent is very involved with her fans, interacting with the often on her socials and providing fanart and behind the scenes information.

What is it?

Her series, The Crowns of Nyaxia, is perfect for the spooky season. It follows Oraya, a human saved by the Vampire King Vincent who raised her as his own daughter. Oraya has lived her life in fear, constantly on guard protecting herself from the blood-thirsty creatures that rule the land. The only way she can change her life is to enter the Kejari, a tournament to the death in which the winner is granted one wish from the mother of vampires, the goddess Nyaxia. (Think vampire hunger games). Oraya will question everything she knows when she meets Raihn, her most dangerous opponent.

How do I read it?

The series will consist of 3 duologies each following different characters and a different vampire house. However, the books will all follow the same plot and involve the same characters. The first duology is complete and consists of The Serpents and the Wings of Night and The Ashes and The Star-Cursed King.  The first book in the next duology. The Songbird and the Heart of Stone, will be available in November. There are also a short Novella (Six Scorched Roses) and a standalone book (Slaying the Vampire Conqueror) that explore side characters. Broadbent says that these books can be skipped or read whenever you like. However, she recommends reading Six Scorched Roses between The Serpents and the Wings of Night and The Ashes and The Star-Cursed King and Slaying the Vampire Conqueror last. Personally, I couldn’t stop to read the novella after book one, so I read it third and still really enjoyed it.

All of the books are available through Kindle Unlimited.
