Children’s Halloween Book Review: My Dad Thinks He’s a Scream

It’s summer. BUT I really wish it wasn’t. If your home is anything like mine, it has been INSANELY hot this summer (and it’s barely getting started). With all of this heat I have been thinking longingly about autumn. I miss cool, fresh days, crisp nights, and autumn colors. AND (even though I am admittedly a big chicken) I miss something about the spooky season.

So, I have found an upcoming Halloween book for kids. My Dad Thinks He’s a Scream by Katrina Germain releases August 5, 2025- just in time for spooky season. It is part of the “My Dad Thinks He’s a…” series, so if your kids like it be sure to check out the other books in the series by this author.

This book was a lot of fun. It is FILLED with puns and dad jokes that will make you and your little ones giggle. Some are simple plays on words and might be better suited for older children that have a stronger understanding of language and spelling. However, there are TONS of jokes to make younger children laugh as well.

Each page is filled with Halloween-themed puns and illustrations.

The illustrations are fun and provide context and discussion opportunity for young readers (or listeners). They are all Halloween-themed and definitely add to the story.

There are a decent amount of pages in this story and plenty of words on each page without becoming overwhelming.

Overall this was a fun book that will definitely add to the joy of the season.
