Awesome Fantasy Books with Screen Adaptations

Fantasy fans, rejoice! Some of our favorite books, those page-turning epics filled with magic, adventure, and jaw-dropping twists, are being adapted into TV shows and movies. From beloved classics to recent bestsellers, Hollywood is embracing the rich, sprawling worlds we’ve fallen in love with on the page.

A Song of Ice and Fire

For fans of Game of Thrones and its predecessor series House of the Dragon, the A Song of Ice and Fire universe is far from over. HBO is hard at work expanding George R.R. Martin’s epic world with several new projects in development. While Snow, a sequel series focused on our beloved Jon Snow, was scrapped, HBO has confirmed its plans to continue exploring Westeros with several show (including animation).

The Hedge Knight (Tales of Dunk and Egg): Based on Martin’s novellas, this series will follow the adventures of Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall) and his squire, Egg (future King Aegon V). It’s a lighter, more personal tale set in the same rich universe.

More Prequels: Rumors swirl about additional prequels exploring different eras of Westeros, including the rise and fall of ancient Valyria and Aegon the Conqueror’s unification of the Seven Kingdoms.

With House of the Dragon already proving a hit, it’s clear that Westeros still has plenty of stories to tell.

Harry Potter (HBO)

Yes, you read that right! Harry Potter is being reimagined for a new generation. HBO has announced plans for a TV adaptation that will bring J.K. Rowling’s beloved series back to life, this time with each season covering one book in the series. The best part? HBO claims to be sticking more closely to the source material then the movies were able to. This means we will have the chance to see some of our favorite moments on the screen! Plus movie fans will get the opportunity to meet much-loved characters like Peeves!

Fourth Wing (Amazon Prime)

Rebecca Yarros’s breakout hit Fourth Wing is already making waves in the fantasy world, and now it’s heading to the screen! The story, set in a war college where students train to bond with dragons, follows Violet Sorrengail as she navigates deadly trials, political intrigue, and a sizzling romance.

The book series currently only has 3 of the 5 books out, but it is anticipated to be finished in time for the show!

Lightlark (Universal Pictures)

Alex Aster’s Lightlark, a story filled with deadly games, forbidden love, and a cursed world, is being adapted into a movie by Universal Pictures. The book follows Isla Crown, a ruler forced to compete in a dangerous competition where alliances and betrayals can mean life or death.

Quicksilver (Netflix)

Callie Hart’s debut into fantasy, Quicksilver has been picked up by Netflix. The gritty, dark romance set in a brutal and magical world, is being adapted into a movie. The story follows Saeris Fane, a thief in a desert world where water is scarce and poverty is rampant. When she is on the brink of death she is whisked away to a wintery fae realm with the mysterious and grumpy Kingfisher.

Known for its intense characters and dark themes, Quicksilver promises to deliver a gripping cinematic experience. Fans of morally gray heroes and antiheroes will definitely want to keep an eye on this one.
