Five Romantic Fantasy Book Recommendations for Fall

Summer was one of my favorite times as a kid. I loved going to the lake, catching fireflies, and, of course, Fourth of July. However, as an adult I am no longer a huge fan of summer. Especially because I live in the desert now and the weather is unbearably hot. I much prefer the crisp cool nights of autumn. I love the color changes of the leaves, the weather, and (even though a lot of people dislike it) the shorter days are kind of cozy. I love sweaters and cozy warm drinks.

I have been thinking a lot about autumn lately. So much so, that I have begun searching for books with autumn vibes. I love spooky season! But I’m also an enormous chicken, so the books I read cannot be too spooky. Here is a short list, in no particular order, of books you should add to your reading list this autumn!

Heartless Hunter (The Crimson Moth) by Kristen Ciccarelli

Genre: Romantasy

Completed duology.

Length: 411 pages

Available on Kindle Unlimited

This is actually my current and first read of the spooky season. She’s a witch. He’s a witch hunter. They are both using each other for information. It’s YA, so there are no open-door spice scenes, but there is definitely a lot of tension, so it may not necessarily be for younger audiences.

Official Blurb:

“On the night Rune’s life changed forever, blood ran in the streets. Now, in the aftermath of a devastating revolution, witches have been diminished from powerful rulers to outcasts ruthlessly hunted due to their waning magic, and Rune must hide what she is.

Spending her days pretending to be nothing more than a vapid young socialite, Rune spends her nights as the Crimson Moth, a witch vigilante who rescues her kind from being purged. When a rescue goes wrong, she decides to throw the witch hunters off her scent and gain the intel she desperately needs by courting the handsome Gideon Sharpe – a notorious and unforgiving witch hunter loyal to the revolution – who she can’t help but find herself falling for.

Gideon loathes the decadence and superficiality Rune represents, but when he learns the Crimson Moth has been using Rune’s merchant ships to smuggle renegade witches out of the republic, he inserts himself into her social circles by pretending to court her right back. He soon realizes that beneath her beauty and shallow façade, is someone fiercely intelligent and tender who feels like his perfect match. Except, what if she’s the very villain he’s been hunting?”

The Wolf King by Lauren Palphreyman

With monsters on both sides, a bloodthirsty war between humans and wolves raging, and undeniable passion growing between them — will their story end in love? Or tragedy?

And will Aurora ever get home?

Does she even want to?”

The Serpent & the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent

Genre: Romantasy

Series consisting of 3 duologies. The first four books are currently avaialable.

Length: 504 pages

Available on Kindle Unlimited

Carissa Broadbent is one of my favorite authors. Everything she writes is beautiful and devastating. This was one of my favorite books from last year and I am dying to read the rest of the series.

Oraya is a human locked in a house full of hungry vampires who are fighting to the death in a competition for a wish from their goddess.

Official blurb:

For humans and vampires, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always – always – guard your heart.

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

But winning won’t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown… and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home. And Raihn may understand her more than anyone – but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall, in a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love.”

One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig

Genre: Gothic Romantic Fantasy

Completed Duology

Everything Rachel Gillig writes is hauntingly beautiful. One Dark Window and its sequel (which is argurably better) are spooky, intriguing, and so unique. It’s set in a gothic, eerie world that is perfect for autumn.
