Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program

Every Year Barnes and Noble hosts an awesome summer reading program for kids. The program is designed to help children love reading and to keep those wonderful reading skills from deteriorating during the summer holiday. To participate a child must read the designated number of books, write a sentence about their favorite part of the story, and bring their work, along with the coupon, back to any participating Barnes and Noble store. They can then choose the free book they want.

Although, their free book is limited to a specific selection of children’s books, it is a large selection. The books to choose from are divided by grade level for convenience (though they can choose any they wish), including grades 1 through 6. There are approximately 30 books for your child to choose from. Some quite notable titles among them are Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling, The Twits by Roald Dahl, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis.

This year children are required to read 8 books in exchange for their free book. The completed paper can be brought in between July 1 and August 1. The free books are super easy to find. Right before you enter the children’s section of the store, there will be a display of all the books available. (Remember although it is on the list of free books, purchase depends on store availability).

The best part of this program is children can read anything they want! As long as they read 8 books, they are free to take charge their reading experience. Do they like fiction or nonfiction? Science or history? Fantasy or Dr. Seuss? This program is truly there to help your child love reading and have fun doing so. My son loves participating in this every year and is super excited to read the dragon book (The Dragon’s Apprentice by James Riley) he chose as his prize this summer.

You can find the coupon to participate in the Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program at your local Barnes and Noble or you can print it online here.
