Children’s Fall Book Review: Squirrels Scamper

Squirrels Scamper by Melina Mangal is the newest installment of a children’s book series called Outside Our Window. Each book in the series focuses on a different animal and season and is available in board book format. Squirrels Scamper releases in August this year, just in time to celebrate the season!

Squirrels Scamper is our fall themed book for this series. (And of course discusses squirrels!). The illustrations are my favorite part of this book. The colors are beautiful and augment to the story. Each page has a picture of a squirrel doing an activity and children doing the same or a similar fall themed activity.

Squirrels are just like us. They run, jump, and gather leaves! They are very relatable and recognizable to children. After all, you can see squirrels almost anywhere you go! The story does a wonderful job of showing an appreciation for nature and allowing for discussion. At the end of the story you can find ways to help your child engage with the story further.

Overall I like this story. However, keep in mind that this is a story for younger children. As such, the book relies a lot on the illustrations. The sentences are short, and easy to understand.

Be sure to check out the other books in this series!
