Children’s Book Review: My Grandma and Grandpa Rock!
This is easily a 5 star children’s book. I went in thinking it would be a cute and funny story about how the narrator’s grandparent’s are rockstars. It was this, but it was also so much more. I was not expecting this book to make me feel emotional. This book touched on diversity, doing what you love, being proud of what you do, and everyone “rocking” in their own way.
The pictures in this book were vibrant, interesting, and engaging. They helped support the story and gave content for extra discussion without the story being solely reliant on them to move forward.
The words, as is so important in children’s books, flowed easily, had a good rhythm and told the story in their own right. A child could easily listen to this book without seeing the pictures and understand the story perfectly fine.
Plus, my personal favorite aspect to this book: it has natural stopping points for discussion. Is there something special your grandparent loves to do? What is your special name for grandma or grandpa?
This material is extremely easy for children to engage with and teaches an important lesson about loving what you do.
