Children’s books to Read: Peg Gets Plucky Review

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Peg Gets Plucky by Jo Renfro is the second book in a new children’s series “Peg Gets _”. The first book available from the same author is Peg gets Crackin‘. Peg Gets Plucky is a cute picture book perfect for beginner readers ages 4-7. The book has easy to read words and repetitive sentence structure. The sentences are short, simple, and easy to understand. Narratively, the story feels lacking. There is not much happening. However, the bright and bold illustrations in the story fill in the blanks and allow plenty of discussion. Plus, kids will love the fun animal characters!

The best thing about this book is the moral. It teaches children to keep going when things are hard. “I’m too small!… I’m too tired!” Peg shouts as she begins to doubt herself. Can she continue on her adventure? Is it worth it? Of course she can and of course it is!

The farm animals and vibrant pictures in this book make it perfect for Easter and springtime!
